Loose cigarettes or a whole pack?
There are two kinds of cigarette case:
- For loose cigarettes: you take the cigarettes out of the pack and put them in the case, under an elastic band or a spring clip.
- For a whole pack: the whole pack slides into it. This kind of case often closes with a magnet.
Which length?
Cases for loose cigarettes come for cigarettes of about 84 to 85 mm and for cigarettes of 100 mm. A case for 100 mm also takes shorter cigarettes, but not the other way round. Most cases hold 18 to 20 cigarettes; there are also smaller models. Check the dimensions of each product.
Which material?
- Metal: sturdy and rigid, so the cigarettes do not get crushed in a pocket or bag.
- Plastic: light and available in many colours.
- Leather or faux leather: lighter and softer, often around a metal frame.
Elastic band or spring clip
The cigarettes are held in place under an elastic band or a metal spring clip. These wear out over time; on some cases you can replace them.
Care
Wipe a case with a dry cloth and do not put it away wet. Keep a leather case away from heating and direct sunlight.
