Frequently asked questions
Does a Zippo lighter come filled?
No, Zippo always ships its lighters without fuel. Lighter fluid is sold separately.
How do you fill a Zippo lighter?
Pull out the insert, lift the felt and let the cotton soak up the fluid slowly. Do not overfill, and wipe off any spills. Every step is in Filling a Zippo, the wick and the flint.
What does the Zippo guarantee cover?
How it works, for life (“It works or we fix it free”), but not the finish.
Good to know
- To change the flint, undo the spring screw at the bottom of the insert
- Replace the wick once it turns black
- Keep the lighter and the fluid out of reach of children
The name refers to the Zippo collection that the publisher De Agostini issued in Germany.
Zippo was founded in 1932 in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The bottom carries the date code: a letter for the month, two digits for the year. More models are in our lighters.
